Most people starting our course are interested in starting a small business, freedom to control their own lives. This is one of the few real bootstrap fields. Startup costs and overhead are low. Your biggest investment is also your major asset, investment in your skills, your abilities and in yourself. Camera repair businesses are few and far between. Business potential is good and this field works great with the web commerce and home offices.

From Lesson 1 you start with ‘The Business of Camera Repair’. We want you working toward developing a successful business from the start. Success is in understanding what makes a successful camera repair business and working toward that goal.

Service and repair are major industries. Service contracts are often the largest profit center for many different types of businesses.

  • This is a high tech field! It requires skill. You have to be part technician and part businessperson. But all of us have entered at the same point, knowing nothing about camera repair or the business of camera repair. So you are in good company and we will help you along the way.

  • Results. “I just had my first Nikon 1DX that needed a new shutter. Using the SPT guide, which Chuck Bertone wrote this turned out to be a very nice repair for $550.00 The shutter cost about $120.00 and the job took about 1 hour. Not to bad for my 1st one. Sometimes these look more intimidating than they really are. Just one curious thing. It will not work with the customer’s battery, which is a "Polaroid" brand. It does work with the Nikon battery. Of course I tried to recharge it with a Nikon charger but the camera only shows normal display with low battery indicator and no release or A/F.” Mike

  • Digital training starts with lesson one and continues throughout the course. We include electronic camera technology as well as aspects of mechanical cameras. Repair is about understanding how and why the equipment works. The roots of digital technology are in electronic cameras and even mechanical cameras. Our intention is to give you a firm background. And the results show ... our graduates run the tightest businesses and are the highest earners.

  • You don’t need an electronic background before starting our course. We include Analog and Digital Electronics Lessons to give you that foundation. If you have an electronics background, you may challenge these lessons. We also have a soldering lesson that you may challenge.

  • Regular course updates . We are constantly writing for the camera repair field. When we have new information, we include it in the course. We update your lessons for one year after graduation.

  • Hands on experience. Most lessons have a lab. The lab might be a camera module, breadboard or camera. You will be required to disassemble and repair several cameras and lens as you go through the program. The lab equipment must be returned to us.

  • The tools you need are part of the course. You have no additional expenses with the exception of providing your own magnifier. The tools and DVDs are yours to keep.

  • It’s open enrollment. You may start at any time.

  • Small Enrollment / Personal Service. We open the course to forty students per year. We limit enrollment to give you personal service and because of our other obligations. But don’t worry since enrollment is open, waiting time is seldom longer the one week.

  • Business training. We understand that most of the students entering our course are most interested in starting a small business. We include this in our course and can give you real advice and real help.

  • Our level of graduate support is unique and second to none! We give you one year free membership in the Society of Photo-Technology, free world wide email technical network, free on line library, discounts with camera parts manufacturers. And more! Our benefits are always growing.
