Thanks Chuck for all your help. I have sucessfully replaced a faulty Canon 7D Main PCB and uploaded both camera data and digital data back to its original settings. I bought a known good used board as a replacement and this updated fine without the initialisation (Essential did the trick!). Now thinking of upgrading to Advanced, then I could also replace brand new boards too.
